Dog Tags – Baby Gift

So I have been making another baby gift but this one is for a man! I know shock I never seem to make jewellery for men and I find it hard to make gifts for men. I think it might be because I just prefer pretty girly things, anyway I got out of my comfort zone and brain stormed (mind mapped, I’m not sure of the correct PC term.) Unfortunately I couldn’t make him a man bangle as I knew he wouldn’t wear it, so I went with dog tags.

I drew out the dog tag shape on illustrator, cut out the shape in silver sheet, I went with the 0.8mm sheet as the 0.5mm was a little flimsy and the 1mm would be a little too heavy to wear. I then used stamps to write there gorgeous new baby girls name, date of birth and weight. I used the classic hit and hope stamp technique, I tried to line the letters up with a piece of wood but for anyone who hand stamps this is so tricky (if every one has any helpful techniques please let men know.)

I oxidized the dog tags to make the writing a little clearer and give it a rustic feel, fingers crossed he likes it!

My friend told me that the term they use in schools instead of brainstorm is ‘thought shower’!
